I kept staring at old pocket voice recorders — three chunky keys, a speaker grille, a display that shows the time like it matters. Hit record and it asks for your mic, captures a real take while the timer runs, and stop keeps the take so play actually plays it back. The waveform scrolls under a locked playhead like tape moving past a head. The side wheel drives a volume HUD with detents every 5%. If mic permission is denied you get a plain message instead of a dead button — the transport and timer keep working regardless.
